Scouts deployed: Celtic plot swoop for teen sensation, PL competition - report
By Danny Wright
Celtic are keeping a close eye on Utrecht right-back Giovanni Troupee, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims that the Glasgow giants have sent scouts to watch the teen sensation, who is rated at £1.75million by his club.
It is understood that Celtic will face a lot of competition if they wish to sign the in-demand 19-year-old as Premier League club Bournemouth, and Bundesliga duo Borussia Monchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt, are also interested.
AZ Alkmaar tried to sign the defender in January, but Utrecht made it clear that they did not want to sell him to an Eredivise rival.
A separate report in Voetbalzone claims that Middlesbrough are also keeping a keen eye on Troupee’s progress.

The Record believe that Celtic’s interest in Troupee would add competition to Mikael Lustig’s right-back spot.
Troupee has represented the Netherlands at three different youth levels and he was called up to the Under-19 squad to earn his first, and only, cap at that level last month.
He has been in hot form for Utrecht this season, who are currently fourth in the Dutch top-tier, scoring four goals and supplying four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
The Dutchman is Utrecht’s youngest ever first-team player, when he made his debut for his club aged 17-years-and-58-days.
He’s also been touted for a call-up to the national squad and is open to a move that would see him play on a bigger stage.
“Of course it is flattering to hear your name linked with big clubs abroad,” he said.
“But no one has told me anything about it and I am just concentrating on improving my game here at Utrecht and continuing to learn.”
His contract with the Dutch club expires in mid-2019.
Football Insider Verdict
In the Netherlands, Utrecht are a fairly average side, but they have been enjoying a phenomenal season in the Eredivise which is largely down to the role that Troupee has played. The 19-year-old would be a great addition to Brendan Rodgers’ youthful squad because he adds something that the club is in desperate need of. Cristian Gamboa has been a bit of a flop since his summer move from West Brom and is nowhere near the quality of Lustig. Troupee will prove to be a great young back-up option to the more experienced Swedish international and his attacking style of play would prove to be a hit in Glasgow.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops should sign this player whose Premier League contract expires in the summer.
