Former Leeds United star and current Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has said that he is expecting a tight clash for when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Elland Road on Wednesday night.
Both sides come into the clash off a poor run of form, with the once-runaway league leaders, who now sit just six points ahead of second placed Cardiff City, having failed to pick up victory in any of their last three games, with two draws and most recently a defeat to Fulham.
Leeds meanwhile have picked up a win recently, the 1-0 over Brentford, but that was their first and only win of 2018, having gone on a winless run stretching back to Boxing Day, while their most recent outing saw them humbled 3-0 at the hands of Middlesbrough.
As such, Prutton has torn into both teams for their recent displays, but feels as though it is time for Nuno’s side to pick up victory after their slump.
Predicting a narrow 1-0 win for the midlands side, he wrote on Sky Sports’ website: “Leeds have got some serious work to do between now and the end of the season.
“It’s a massive push for them to get into the top six but now is a really good time for Heckingbottom to really look at the squad and see what he’s got.
“I really want to say Leeds, but though Wolves aren’t exactly pulling up trees, they look all at sea.
“Wolves will be looking to bounce back as they haven’t won in three, so I’m going to go for am away win, but a very tight one.”
Football Insider verdict
Prutton is absolutely right about both sides failing to impress, but while Wolves might be a temporary slide in form, Leeds’ problems look much more deep rooted. They were second best in every department against Boro and 3-0 was by no means flattering for the team from the north east. What fans really did not want next was a visit from the league leaders who will no doubt be hurting from their own poor form, and while Prutton might be expecting a tight one, it could easily be a thrashing. It all depends on the sort of performance Leeds put in, but one thing is assured – it has got to be better than Friday night’s display.
