Aston Villa senior figure: Di Matteo in hunt for another striker after McCormack capture

Aston Villa ambassador Ian Taylor has stated that the club are in the market for another striker on the day they signed Ross McCormack from Fulham.

Manager Roberto Di Matteo had been on the lookout for a new striker and the club officially announced the £12m capture of McCormack on Thursday morning.

Ex-midfielder Taylor praised the purchase of the Scotland international, who scored on 21 occasions last term for the Craven Cottage club.

But, the club legend informed supporters that Di Matteo may not be finished yet, as the Midlands outfit are looking to add another striker to their ranks.

"I think he would be a fantastic signing," Taylor wrote on his personal Twitter account. "Proven goalscorer at this level. I know we're after another too."

Here is Taylor on Wednesday evening responding to a fans question, prior to the arrival of McCormack.

With the addition of McCormack, Di Matteo now has four senior strikers at club with Jordan Ayew, Rudy Gestede and the much-criticised Gabby Agbonlahor all vying for a starting place.

Ayew scored on seven occasions last term, while Gestede found the net on five occasions, but it was boyhood Villa fan, Agbonlahor who was lambasted by fans as he scored only one goal all season.
