Senior star in advanced talks to join PL club after being priced out of Ibrox move - Sources

Wes Foderingham is in advanced talks to join Sheffield United just weeks after being released by Rangers.

The 29-year-old has been offered a contract by Chris Wilder’s side and is close to agreeing the terms of a surprise free transfer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that United are confident of sealing a deal for Foderingham in the coming days as they look to provide cover and competition for the goalkeeper’s position next season.

Dean Henderson is the established number one but he is only on loan from Man United for a second consecutive season.

Rangers announced at the end of May that Foderingham was among six senior stars released when their contracts expired.

As revealed by Football Insider at that time, it was always the Englishman’s intention to head back south of the border.

He had been expected to join an EFL club and his imminent move to Bramall Lane counts as something of a surprise.

Foderingham came through the youth ranks at Fulham but has never played in the Premier League.

He has spent the last five years at Rangers, where he made 143 appearances, and his only previous senior experience came in an extensive spell at Swindon Town.

The arrival of Allan McGregor in the summer of 2018 pushed Foderingham down the Ibrox pecking order and he played only five times in the 2019-20 season.

Speaking to the Open Goal podcast, the keeper claimed he was “priced out of a move” after McGregor replaced him as number one and Steven Gerrard took an unfair dislike to him.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Bournemouth are in pole position to beat the Ibrox giants to 26-goal striker.
