Paul Robinson has tipped Xherdan Shaqiri to join a top-10 Premier League side if he leaves Liverpool this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper claimed the 29-year-old is a “luxury player” who only the top sides can afford to have in their side.
Shaqiri has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Anfield but could be set to exit the club this summer.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday the Reds will sanction the winger’s exit at the end of the season if they receive a bid in the region of £23million.
The Switzerland international has contributed one goal and four assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this season.
When asked by Football Insider if he expected Shaqiri to stay in the Premier League if he leaves Liverpool, Robinson said: “Shaqiri is a player who is a creative.
“He is more of a luxury player so his work rate does come into question at times.
“You would have to think that he would join a team in the top half of the Premier League, one that can afford a luxury player.
“I couldn’t see him joining a bottom half Premier League team because of the way he plays but of course, at the same time, he played at Stoke for so long.
“I will be very interested to see where he goes. I think he would suit a team that plays on the front foot more though and for that reason I could see him joining a top-half side or a club in Europe.”
