Newcastle took a huge step towards Premier League safety with a massive three points at the King Power Stadium today.

And legend Alan Shearer took to Twitter straight after the final whistle with a jubilant tweet that hailed Rafa Benitez and asked if they could play Leicester every week.

Gary Lineker came on to respond to his fellow Match of the Day pundit, jokingly saying that he was "pleased" for Shearer.

The result puts Newcastle on 38 points after 32 games, ten points clear of the relegation zone and with six games left to play.

Football Insider verdict:

This was huge for Newcastle and fans will love to see how excited Shearer gets after games. They're now just two points off the magical 40 that should ensure safety and it would take an absolute disaster for them to go down now. Shearer is right to hail one man too – Rafa Benitez has got the absolute maximum from his squad of players and will hopefully stay to bring them even more next season. For this season, this is about as good as it could have got.
