Sheffield United board told to 'act now' as three-man transfer list revealed - Kenny

The Sheffield United board must back Slavisa Jokanovic to the hilt this January if they are to have a shot at promotion.

So says ex-Blades shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Serbian manager’s transfer wish list.

As quoted by The Star on 1 November, Jokanovic revealed he is targeting “two wingers and a holding midfielder”.

United have won only five of their opening 16 games and are currently 16th in the Championship, six points outside the play-off places.

Adlene Guedioura, the 35-year-old midfielder who signed as a free agent in September, is their only permanent addition of the campaign so far.

And Kenny urges the Bramall Lane hierarchy to finance Jokanovic’s recruitment aspirations in the mid-season window.

“In the end, it was a bit of a rush in the summer window,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“I’d like to think that when he joined in the summer, he’ll have been given assurances that he’ll get what he needs. It’s time to act on that now.

“Having watched Sheffield United, a holding midfielder is definitely needed. The defence needs some help because they’ve conceded too many easy goals.

“In terms of wingers, I can definitely see why he’s after a couple in January.

“They’ve played McBurnie out wide at times. It’s frustrating because you’re begging them to get the ball to McBurnie in the box. That’s why he’s there.

“If they are going to have a chance of getting the play-offs, they need to back the manager.
