Sheffield United handed 'massive' promotion boost after news confirmed - Paddy Kenny
The return of Sheffield United fans to Bramall Lane will be a “massive help” to the club as they aim for promotion next season.
That is according to ex-Blades shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Government confirmed mandatory social distancing rules will end on 19th July.
That means capacity crowds will return to stadia in time for the start of the 2021-22 season.
Bramall Lane has not had a full-sized crowd since 31,000 spectators watched United beat Norwich City 1-0 in March 2020.
United were in contention for a European spot that season but ultimately fell away and were relegated the following campaign.
Kenny claims that the lack of supporters played its part in the Blades’ demise and that their return will be welcomed with open arms.

“It seemed to play a big part last season,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Going back to the season before last as well, Sheffield United were flying but then Covid hit and they tailed off towards the backend of that season.
“That has continued into this season. I suppose all clubs will say the same, but to get a full stadium of fans back in Bramall Lane will be massive for them.
“Obviously, I’ve played there and it’s a very special place when it’s full. I’m sure it will be a massive help for them.
“It’s just a relief we can get back to some normality and start watching games again.”
