Kenny salutes Jokanovic as Sheffield United 'ready' to swoop for Berge replacement

Slavisa Jokanovic deserves credit for having a contingency plan in place for if Sander Berge quits Sheffield United this summer.

That is according to Blades legend Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the newly-appointed boss’s recent revelation.

Quoted by Yorkshire Live on 12th July, the 52-year-old said that the club is “ready” to find a “different solution” if Berge leaves in the immediate future.

Berge, who has three years remaining on his contract, is reportedly attracting transfer interest from the likes of Arsenal and Napoli.

Kenny hailed the Serb for his preparedness and claimed that United should target another midfielder who can carry the ball as well as the Norway star.

“He’s a good player and a very influential player,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“But if you don’t have a plan in place then if he does leave then you sell yourself short.

“So it’s good thinking to have a plan B in reserve. If he does leave then they’ll have other targets that they can get straight in.

“I don’t know what the manager thinks and how he wants to play in terms of who they’d get in.

“I like how Berge travels with the ball. They haven’t got a lot of players who can do that, so maybe they do need a like-for-like.

“It depends on how he looks at his squad and the kind of football he wants to play.”

Berge, 23, was sidelined for much of last season as the Blades were relegated from the top-flight.

He has turned out 32 times for the South Yorkshire side since signing in January 2020.
