Kenny names three Sheffield United stars who 'need to go' in January

Rhian Brewster, David McGoldrick and another defender should be sold this January in order to fund a shake-up at Sheffield United.

So says Blades legend Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent remarks made by manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

As quoted by The Star on 1 November, the Serbian revealed he is targeting “two wingers and a holding midfielder” ahead of the transfer window.

Brewster, who is under contract until 2025, signed for United from Liverpool in a £25million deal two summers ago.

The 21-year-old’s strike again Blackburn Rovers on 6 November was his first league goal in 35 appearances.

Fellow centre-forward McGoldrick, whose deal expires at the end of the season, has not started a match since early August.

Kenny insists that the Blades will have to part company with some of their underperforming stars if they are to finance a rebuild.

“I thought in the summer that a few should have gone,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“They have had an amazing three years, getting the promotions and then staying in the Premier League.

“But they have been struggling for a while now and I think it’s time that a couple of them need to go.

“In terms of the ones who should go, Brewster has cost a lot of money and not done a lot.

“I like David McGoldrick but he can’t seem to get a game at the minute. They might think about moving him on because they do need to freshen up.

“Maybe one of the defenders as well. It’s a matter of finding a market for them. You have to think about that too.”
