Celtic have submitted a £5million bid for Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty, sources have told Football Insider.

The Glasgow giants have turned their attention to landing the USA international as they work on multiple late-window arivals.

It is believed that United are reluctant to sell but the Hoops are pushing hard to try to make the move happen before Friday's cut-off.

Celtic have securedrecord fee for the sale of Matt O’Riley to Brighton and they are set to invest the bulk of that into Brendan Rodgers’ squad with 26-year-old Trusty a high priority.

Offers have been made for Augsburg’s Arne Engels and Los Angeles FC's Mateusz Bogus, and now Rodgers has made his move to land Trusty to strengthen his defence.

Celtic in offer for Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty

Trusty has featured twice for the Championship club so far this season, scoring once in their 4-2 League Cup win over League One side Wrexham.

The American defender made 34 appearances for United last season, 30 of which were starts, as they were relegated from the Premier League, finishing in dead last.

Sheffield United paid £5m to sign him from Arsenal last season but with the club has since dropped out of the Premier League they may be keen to recoup the fee.

The prospect of Champions League football and the opportunity to team up with countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers may be enough to lure Trusty to Celtic Park.
