Sheffield Wednesday can finally move on from Dejphon Chansiri after new EFL update

Sheffield Wednesday have surely severed ties with Dejphon Chansiri once and for all after he missed the chance to rinse the Championship club of more valuable finances.

David Storch and US consortium Arise Capital officially completed a takeover of the Owls last week after five long months in administration.

Controversial former owner Chansiri had placed Wednesday into administration in October in the midst of serious financial issues and numerous missed payments to staff and the EFL.

Fans are now looking forward to a new era under their American chiefs, especially after it was revealed that they will not start next season in League One on minus 15 points.

Chansiri remained reluctant to write down the debt he was owed until the EFL allowed Storch to proceed with his takeover and offer the Thai businessman a lesser deal, but his latest mistake will allow the club to move on without him once and for all.

Dejphon Chansiri will not be given bonus payments after missing EFL deadline

Chansiri had been owed £16million in loans he’d given to the club during his tenure at the helm, but Storch refused to pay him, and the EFL allowed him not to due to the bad state the club was left in last October.

Sky Sports News revealed last weekend that an offer worth several million pounds remained on the table for Chansiri, and would be paid if Wednesday were to achieve promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

According to a new report from The Star, Chansiri’s camp have narrowly missed that deadline to accept an offer and he will now miss out on the hefty bonus payments that he was set to be owed by the club.

He was given the chance to accept before midday on Tuesday, 5 May, but failed to do so and is now set to walk away from the whole administration process without making any money.

Everyone connected to the club will surely be ecstatic, as he has only brought shame to them and frankly did not deserve a single penny for the shoddy way he handled business.

Storch and his Arise partners will undoubtedly be pleased that they are set to move on without needing to deal with the Thai businessman again too.

They can now finally move forward, safe in the knowledge that Chansiri is not their problem, with things finally looking up at Hillsborough after months in the darkness.

How have Wednesday fans reacted to Chansiri’s mistake?

Former Everton and Aston Villa CEO, Keith Wyness, has told Football Insider that he expects Arise to spark an “amazing” club rebuild in the coming months.

They will be buoyed by news of Chansiri’s mistake, with fans making their feelings on the news very clear on social media.

One replied to reporter Alex Miller’s post by saying: “It’s laughable how incompetent this man is. Unbelievable.”

Another said: “Hahahahahahaha, not only was he the world’s worst football owner, he’s just an idiot!”
