Sheffield Wednesday: Dejphon Chansiri ‘loses millions’ after missing ‘very clear deadline’
Sheffield Wednesday fans will not feel sorry for Dejphon Chansiri after he missed the opportunity to claim money from the Championship club.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after it was revealed Chansiri will not be getting any more payments after missing an EFL deadline.
Chansiri had been owned £16million in loans that he had given Sheffield Wednesday during his ownership of the club between 2015 and 2025.
The Thai businessman could have accepted an offer worth millions of pounds, which would have given him his money back if the Owls were promoted back to the Championship from League One at the first attempt next season.
However, Chansiri missed the deadline to accept the offer, meaning new owner David Storch can begin life at the club without needing to hand any money over to the 57-year-old in the future.
Dejphon Chansiri ‘didn’t pay any respect’ to Sheffield Wednesday
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes it is “strange” that Chansiri missed the EFL’s deadline.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness wants the money that Chansiri would have got to be put back into Sheffield Wednesday.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It just shows the chaos with which Chansiri rules his business.
“It may be that he was out at lunch or something and didn’t get to it in time. That’s what it smacks of right now. It is very strange.
“We’re talking about millions here that he lost by not responding on time. There was a very clear deadline apparently, and it didn’t happen. So, in a funny way, nobody really feels sorry for him.
“It just showed again he was writing roughshod over a lot of the rules, didn’t pay any respect to the rules as he showed at the end of his tenure and this just came back to bite him.
“Everybody’s quite happy in a sense that he’s lost that chance, so I hope the money goes back into Sheffield Wednesday rather than into his pocket.”

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Storch is going to have to pump money into Sheffield Wednesday immediately to improve the infrastructure at Hillsborough.
Storch will also face pressure from the fanbase to give manager Henrik Pedersen money to spend in the summer transfer window.
12 Sheffield Wednesday players will see their contracts expire in the summer, whilst a couple of stars are being linked with moves away.
The Owls could struggle to keep hold of goalkeeper Pierce Charles and midfielder Svante Ingelsson amid interest from other clubs.
