Sheffield Wednesday: Keith Wyness ‘concerned’ after David Storch completes takeover
Sheffield Wednesday’s new owner David Storch deserves a chance to rebuild the club after completing a takeover of the Championship side.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who believes that Storch is currently “making all the right noises.”
Storch’s takeover was confirmed on the final day of the Championship season, where the 73-year-old was in attendance at Hillsborough for Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-1 win over West Brom.
It was then announced that the club’s 15-point penalty by the EFL had been waived, and in further positive news, the Owls will not be subject to a £7,000 weekly wage cap or £7million seasonal spend next season in League One.
Sheffield Wednesday had been in administration since October 2025, which effectively ended the reign of former owner Dejphon Chansiri, who has now been banned from owning or being a director of any EFL club for the next three years.
Sheffield Wednesday have ‘proper resources’ under David Storch
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – only has one concern over the part the Independent Football Regulator played in proceedings.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has warned Storch that actions will speak louder than words in his new role at Sheffield Wednesday.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “To me, common sense has prevailed, and I wish Storch well.
“He’s making all the right noises at the moment, a little bit carried away with being a new owner. We all know actions will speak a lot louder than words, but I’ve got a feeling they’re going to give it a decent go. They seem to have proper resources, they seem to have some people that understand the club at heart, and they’ve made some decent appointments.
“They’ve got a good consortium that seems to have knowledge of the local area, so I think they could turn out to be decent owners and certainly deserve a chance to get forward. I’m also a little bit concerned there about the role that the Independent Football Regulator started to play in getting involved in this already.
“I don’t know if they were fully constituted and really timing-wise able to do it, but they did put their fingers into it. That’s another layer that stops a lot of these deals from happening, it would appear. So we’ll have to see how that all transpires as things come out in the months ahead.
“But overall, look, good luck to Mr. Storch. I think the EFL did the right thing. And, let’s relook at those rules as to how they can be handled differently and get them to be as consistent as possible. But at last, the right decision was finally got to.”
Lincoln express interest in Sheffield Wednesday defender
Sources have told Football Insider that Sheffield Wednesday defender Joe Emery is a target for Lincoln City in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old has come through the ranks at the Yorkshire club, and broke through into the first team last season, making three Championship appearances.
Sheffield Wednesday want to keep him at the club next season as they return to League One, whilst Lincoln will hope to lure him away having achieved promotion to the Championship.
Henrik Pedersen could face a challenge keeping hold of his best talent this summer, with goalkeeper Pierce Charles also linked with a move away.
