Sources: Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Plymouth in race to sign Findlay

Multiple EFL clubs including Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth are lining up moves for Philadelphia Union defender Stuart Findlay this month, Football Insider understands.

Blackpool, Preston, Plymouth, Barnsley, Oxford United, Hibernian and Hearts are also keen on the Scotland centre-back.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Findlay, 26, is keen to join a club where he is playing regularly after not being a regular starter in the MLS.

Philadelphia don’t want to lose Findlay but they won’t stand in his way of a January transfer.

This site revealed in February 2021 that Findlay had agreed to sign for Philadelphia from Kilmarnock.

The Celtic academy graduate, who rejected an offer from Hearts prior to his move across the pond, signed a contract until December 2022.

He has made just five starts among nine appearances in total for the MLS outfit.

He told Football Scotland on 24 December (2021) that living in America is a “dream” but that regular football was the “one missing piece of the puzzle.”

Findlay never made a senior appearance for Celtic but did spend time on loan at Greenock Morton, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock before his departure in July 2016.

After moving on a free transfer to Newcastle United, he made one Championship appearance in the 2016-17 campaign.

He was sent out on loan again to boyhood club Kilmarnock the following season, where he scored three goals in 26 appearances.

He joined Killie permanently in July 2018 and made a further 80 appearances before departing to Philadelphia.

Finlday scored on his only appearances for Scotland against San Marino in October 2019.
