Sheffield Wednesday: Svante Ingelsson exit is surely certain after contract clause update
Sheffield Wednesday will surely be unable to keep hold of key man Svante Ingelsson this summer as his wages drop following their relegation from the Championship.
Ingelsson was a shining light in a dismal season for all connected to Wednesday following a myriad of financial issues that saw them succumb to relegation.
The Swedish midfielder picked up the Owls’ Player of the Season award last week after a fan vote, and could be set to stay in the Championship amid interest in his signature.
Wednesday have an option to extend his expiring deal and remain keen on keeping him at the club, but he is surely more likely to depart following the latest update on the terms of his current contract.
The good times look set to return to Hillsborough after Arise Capital’s takeover was confirmed, but fans could soon be set for more bad news if Ingelsson does make way.
Svante Ingelsson’s wages will decrease if he stays at Wednesday so an exit seems obvious
Ingelsson deservedly picked up Wednesday’s Player of the Season award despite missing their last four games of the season with a knee injury that required surgery.
He has previously been linked with a move to Stoke City ahead of the summer after Wednesday rejected a bid for his services from Portsmouth in January.

Henrik Pedersen has admitted that it will be “difficult” for the club to keep the 27-year-old despite having the option to extend his contract by another year.
They are plotting talks over a new deal regardless of the extension option, but The Star‘s latest report has revealed that Ingelsson’s contract will be subject to the ‘cross-squad wage drop clause’ that is automatically introduced after relegation.
He will already be earning a lesser wage for a Championship midfielder of his quality, and lowering it any further will surely see him seek a move away.
The likes of Stoke and Portsmouth will be able to offer him a much-improved contract this summer, so Ingelsson will surely leave S6 in the coming weeks.
Wednesday have more hope of keeping hold of Max Lowe after new update
Sources have told Football Insider that Wednesday’s new ownership will spark a rebuild of their playing squad, with contract talks set to be first on their agenda.
The Star’s new report also claims that, alongside Ingelsson, Wednesday intend to offer left-back Lowe a new deal very soon too.
He has also impressed at Hillsborough throughout this season and is of interest to Stoke, but the Owls will hold out more hope that he signs fresh terms.
Lowe has already hinted at staying with the club in League One, and his services will not be as in demand as Ingelsson’s are likely to be this summer.
