Full-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson played 60 minutes of Leeds United’s League Cup penalty victory over Burnley on Tuesday evening – and Whites fans on Twitter were left utterly disappointed.
The 20-year-old, who moved on loan to the Elland Road giants from fierce rivals Manchester United earlier in the summer has struggled for game time so far, playing just once in the league with his other three appearances coming in the cup competition.
He was however handed an opportunity against the Premier League side at Turf Moor on Tuesday as he was named in the starting line-up alongside Conor Shaughnessy, Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi in the back four.
When Borthwick-Jackson left the pitch the scoreline also stood at 0-0 with goals from each of Hadi Sacko, Pablo Hernandez, Chris Wood and Robbie Brady all coming in the last 10 minutes before Leeds achieved a 5-3 penalty shoot out victory.
However, many Whites fans took to social media during the match to blast the display of the young left-back with many stating he was “awful” and “shocking.”
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Only disappointment tonight was CBJ who obviously has talent but suspect needs a run of games to show his best which he won't get #LUFC

CBJ was so bad TC preferred to put a winger at full back rather than keep him on #LUFC

Hope CBJ doesnt play for Leeds again. He's his (& our) own worst enemy. Hes now behind non left backs Beradi, Anita, Dallas & my Gran! #LUFC

Have Man Utd sent CBJ in an attempt to try and stop us doing well? #lufc

Borthwick-Jackson has already played 14 times for the senior Manchester United team.
However, in the last campaign he also struggled in a loan move at Championship club Wolves, where he played just seven times across the season and the youngster will now be hoping for far better at Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, former defender Charlie Taylor has spoken about his exit from the club for the first time.
