Sky: Arsenal open talks to sign forward who ripped up league this season
By Danny Wright
Arsenal have opened talks with KAS Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed on their transfer blog at 5:14PM on Monday that the Gunners have moved ahead of Everton and Southampton in the race for the Nigerian youngster, who has a £6.8million release clause.
Interest in Onyekuru has been rife after the 19-year-old tore apart the Belgian Jupiler League this season by scoring 22 goals and supplying nine assists.
The versatile attacker, who usually plays on the left-wing, was joint top scorer in the competition with Anderlecht’s Lukasz Teodorczyk but missed out on the golden boot due to an inferior amount of away goals scored.
Onyekuru has previously revealed that he has an agreement with Eupen that he will leave them in the summer transfer window after attracting the attention from some of the Premier League’s top sides.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has recently reported that two English top-flight clubs are in talks with Onyekuru, but failed to name who they might be.
It now looks as though the Gunners could be one of those teams who are making an approach for the teenager, but competition could be coming from elsewhere.
Onyekuru has scored 30 goals in 60 appearances across all competitions since joining Eupen in 2015 from the Aspire Academy .
Football Insider Verdict
Onyekuru is attracting a massive amount of attention from teams in the Premier League because he is clearly a very gifted young player. Belgium is a breeding ground for up-and-coming talent and the Nigerian wonderkid appears to be the latest prodigy coming off the conveyor belt of talent. The Gunners would have to act quick to get hold of the 19-year-old though because if other clubs clock on they could be willing to up their offers and try to lure him away from Arsene Wenger’s clutches with a promise of first-team football. Next season will be big for Arsenal without the Champions League so it could be a good chance for them to blood some young stars like Onyekuru.
