Everton have had no approaches for attacking midfielder Ross Barkley, who is reportedly a target for Tottenham, according to Sky Sports.
The popular broadcasters have detailed on their live transfer blog (Saturday, 07.10am) that the situation of the 23-year-old stands at there having been no bid, or even an approach for the Englishman.
Both Spurs and Manchester United are specifically named in the Sky Sports segment, which follows a report from the London Evening Standard that Barkley was attracted to a move to north London after hearing references from his England teammates about manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Barkley is also going into the final year of his contract at Goodison Park and with there being no developments on a new deal it is more than likely that the attacker, who played in 39 matches in all competitions last season will be departing if another club does come in for him.
Football Insider verdict:
For whatever reason Barkley doesn’t seem to be too eager to sign up to a new deal at Everton and if the Toffees want to avoid losing him on a free next summer then they must start offering the Englishman out at a low cost. The attacker was once thought of as one of England’s brightest prospects, but it has also been a testing past year for him with omissions from the Three Lions team alongside altercations with manager Ronald Koeman. Tottenham, meanwhile boast two of the top attacking midfielders in the Premier League with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, but after two misses at the Premier League title it is clear that a greater quality of depth is needed, which Barkley gives.
In other Tottenham transfer news, there has been a major development in Spurs’ pursuit of defensive starlet.
