Sky: Everton agree £30million fee for 23-year-old

By Derek Smithson

Everton have agreed a mega-money deal with Sunderland for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to a report.

Sky Sports claim that a £30million fee has been agreed between the two clubs for the 23-year-old.

It is understand that the Toffees had an initial offer rejected last week, but their latest one has been accepted by the Black Cats.

The report details that the £30million will include add-ons which will be relevant over a long-term contract.

Pickford is currently away on international duty with the England Under-21 side and his future at Sunderland has been in doubt this summer.

The goalkeeper was unable to prevent them from being relegated from the Premier League last season and he will realistically need top-flight action to keep any national hopes alive.

He was one of the starring lights for the Black Cats despite their relegation and is being tipped to become a future England number one in the senior team.

Football Insider verdict:

Everton need to strengthen their squad in the summer and their main priority must be a goalkeeper. Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles are not good enough long-term options, considering the Merseyside club want to break into the top-six of the Premier League. Some Everton fans may be sceptical about the huge £30million fee for Pickford, a player that only made his first-team breakthrough at Sunderland last season. However, the 23-year-old really looks set to become a top-class goalkeeper and Goodison Park could be the perfect platform for him to succeed. He would be another English talent at Everton if they complete a deal and the £30million sum should be seen as a wise investment.

In other Everton transfer news, they have re-emerged as favourites to sign a £25million-rated defender.
