Italian giants Inter Milan are eyeing up a summer swoop for Tottenham forward Erik Lamela after failing to secure a deal for his Argentina teammate Javier Pastore, according to Sky Italy.
The broadcaster claim on their website that the Serie A side are struggling to nail down a deal for the Paris Saint Germain attacking midfielder, with Inter seeking a loan move while the French club want to offload him permanently.
As a result it is said that the side sitting fourth in Italy’s top flight are willing to turn their attention to a summer move for Tottenham’s 25-year-old, having starred for league rivals Roma before making the move to north London.
Having recovered from a serious hip injury which kept him out of action for over a year, the 23-cap international has made 13 appearances for Spurs this season, with a total of 133 outings under his belt in his five-year spell at the club.
Football Insider verdict
While Lamela has struggled for game time recently, Spurs will know he still has a lot to offer them and will be reluctant to letting him leave for anything less than a premium fee. However this second half of the season could define his future at the club. If he fails to impress, then Mauricio Pochettino may just consider letting him go to build funds for reinforcements to his squad. On the other hand, an impressive end to the campaign could secure his place as a first team star and stuck with a not-for-sale tag on him. It promises to be a crucial six months for the both the Argentinian and the club.
