West Ham are yet to make a move or bid for Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey with the Magpies insisting that he is not for sale this month, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster claim on the live transfer blog on their website (26/01, 10:59) that the Hammers are yet to make an official approach in their reported pursuit of the 25-year-old midfield star, with several reports stating that David Moyes is keen to bolster his midfield.
The Sun stated that after a failed move for his signing earlier in the summer, the east London club were ready to reignite a move after the Magpies snapped up the loan capture of Chelsea winger Kenedy, with Moyes said to believe Rafael Benitez would allow Shelvey to depart for a cut-price.
Shelvey has made 19 appearances for the Magpies this season, but has sat out five matches as a result of suspension with two sendings off.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle were always unlikely to let Shelvey depart for anything less than a premium fee this month, and it appears as though West Ham are yet to decide on whether they are willing to meet his asking price. After an up-and-down season with the Magpies, the 25-year-old is back to being a regular in Benitez’s starting XI, and with the Hammers a rival for survival, there is every chance that an official move would still be turned down. Still, as proven throughout the years, the transfer window can change in the blink of the eye, and with a couple of days remaining, this could be one to watch.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the Magpies are just £1.25million from securing an international star.
