Sky Sports journalist: Newcastle rivals launch bid to sign Magpies' international powerhouse
Newcastle United have received a bid from Premier League rivals Brighton for Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to a journalist.
Sky Sports’ north east reporter Keith Downey has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Seagulls have launched a move to snap up the 23-year-old powerhouse as they look to bolster their attack, with the forward also reported to be interesting fellow top flight side West Brom.

The 33-cap Serbian international has struggled for game time at St James’ Park this season, with Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez handing him just seven appearances across all competitions, not one coming as a league start, while he has managed to net three goals.
He has a total of 72 outings under his belt for the Magpies, with 17 strikes to his name, after joining from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2015.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle are in a difficult situation with Mitrovic, as they want the funds to reinvest elsewhere but do not want to be letting go of one of their strikers without a replacement lined up. The Serbian is one of the club’s most saleable assets but his lack of playing time will mean what there are few clubs willing to hand over the sort of money the Magpies would like to receive. Meanwhile the player himself must be desperate to see some first team action, wherever that might be, and so Benitez may well be getting a push from the striker to get a deal over the line.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, Mike Ashley has given the green light for the club to snap up an international hitman for a record equalling fee.
