Tottenham have been handed a major boost in their hopes of keeping star striker Harry Kane at the club as Real Madrid are willing to wait over a potential transfer swoop, according to a Sky Sports journalist.
Guillem Balague, the broadcaster’s Spanish football expert, has claimed in his column on their website that the Spanish giants are set to prioritise the captures of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois in the summer, with their pursuit of the England striker set to cool.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu after his impressive goal scoring exploits for both club and country, but Balague says that Los Blancos are set to keep him as a long-term target rather than swooping in the summer window, which is a major boost to the club’s hopes of keeping him.
Kane, who has two successive Premier League golden boots to his name, has scored 26 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions for Spurs this season, including a brace against AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Football Insider verdict
While January might prove to be a quiet one for Tottenham, the summer looked as though it could be full of incomings and outgoings ahead of their move back into their own stadium. Kane’s future is an issue which will persistently circle the club for as long as he is there but this latest update will be a huge boost to Mauricio Pochettino, with Real seemingly the frontrunners for his signing. It does not mean they will not be in for him, but it seems it will not be immediately in the summer. He is their most valuable asset but the goals he scores are worth more than the money it would cost for his capture – although will Daniel Levy see things the same if a big bid is tabled?
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have had their way paved to secure the signing of a long-term target.
