Sky Sports pundit: This is where Arsenal would finish this season without Sanchez
By Will Butcher
Phil Thompson believes Arsenal would finish outside the Premier League’s top six without star striker Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez’s future in north London is in doubt after the Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that the 28-year-old attacker was desperate to leave Arsenal in the summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Gillette Soccer Saturday, pundit Thompson claimed Arsenal might finish as low as sixth or seventh without their Chile international.
“Arsenal would finish sixth or seventh without Sanchez,” Thompson said. “He’s a winner, he drives his teammates forward and some of his teammates need to have a look at themselves.
“Without him they capitulate. He’s a fantastic talent, but without Sanchez against Liverpool, Arsenal were lacklustre and it proves that starting Sanchez makes them a better team.”

Sanchez has been in outstanding form for the Gunners this season, finding the back of the net 20 times in his 36 league and cup appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side.
However, doubts over his future lead to the former Barcelona ace being benched against Liverpool last weekend, which saw Jurgen Klopp’s side run out 3-1 winners at Anfield.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will finish in this season’s top four, as they sit in fifth place but with a game in hand over fourth placed Liverpool.
Sanchez could make his 37th appearances for the Gunners on Saturday, as Arsenal welcome non-league Lincoln City to the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup quarter finals.
