Sky Sports pundit Peter Beagrie feels that Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has been a little bit of an unsung hero in recent weeks.
The Toffees are undefeated in their last seven Premier League games and recorded a comprehensive 6-3 win against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Forward Romelu Lukaku has become the division’s top goalscorer with his 16 league goals, while 18-year-old Tom Davies has burst on to the scene to become a much-talked about talent.
However, Beagrie claims that Barkley has gone under the radar slightly and has equally been in fantastic form like some of his other team-mates.
“I know Romelu Lukaku took the headlines with his goals and Tom Davies has been superb in recent weeks, but under the radar Ross Barkley has been flourishing,” Beagrie told Sky Sports. “He’s been amazing in the last six or seven games and that’s a positive sign for both Everton and England.”
Everton manager Ronald Koeman will be delighted that his side are beginning to perform regularly to his high standard following his summer appointment.
Barkley has become a critical player under Koeman and has flourished in the attacking midfield position.
The 23-year-old has now scored five goals and supplied five assists in 25 appearances this season, and is enjoying a purple patch of form.
He has already made 22 senior appearances for England’s national side, but has not featured in the squad since the disappointment of the European Championships.
Barkley will hope that his form this campaign can help him force his way back into contention and earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s next squad.
In other Everton news, Garth Crooks has named the club’s star in his team of the week.
