Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Bayern Munich will beat Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Arsenal travel to Germany to face Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the first leg of the competition’s Round of 16, with the Gunners playing host at the Emirates Stadium on March 7.
Nicholas claimed on the Sky Sports’ website that 31-year-old defender Laurent Koscielny will be exposed by striker Robert Lewandowski in a 2-1 defeat at the Allianz Arena, as well as criticising Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
“Arsenal are obviously not firing on all cylinders heading into this game,” Nicholas claimed. “But neither side are as good as they used to be. Bayern have not clicked this season.
“I fear Laurent Koscielny will get exposed by Robert Lewandowski. Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, as much as I think of them, just don’t deliver enough in the big games.”
The Gunners will be looking to forget their most recent clash with the German champions back in November 2015, which saw Bayern smash Arsene Wenger’s side 5-1 in the group stages.
In the last five matches between the two sides, the Gunners have recorded two victories including a 2-0 triumph in the reverse fixture of last season’s 5-1 loss back in north London.
Wenger will be hoping his side’s form of five wins in their last seven league and cup encounters will inspire his side to hold out the likes of Thomas Muller and Lewandowski.
However, Bayern have failed to win just one out of their last 11 outings, drawing away at Schalke and will be looking to take an advantage to north London in March with a win.
In other Arsenal news, the Gunners should leave this 28-year-old on the bench against Bayern.
