Sky Sports pundit predicts Celtic v Manchester City

By Will Butcher

Charlie Nicholas believes Manchester City will record a comfortable Champions League victory against Celtic on Tuesday night.

In a match that has little effect on the end result of Group C, Nicholas believes Pep Guardiola’s side will secure all three points because of Celtic’s poor away record in Europe.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas predicted a 3-1 victory for City against Brendan Rodgers’s side, and claimed that the Hoops could opt to revert to a three-man defence.

“Celtic’s away record in Europe is abysmal but they have been improving,” Nicholas said in his Sky Sports column. “They’ve only got two points in the bag but I think Brendan Rodgers will demand his side show what they learnt.

“I think Rodgers might go with a back three and try to play on the counter-attack but with Scott Sinclair out, Moussa Dembele could be a lonely figure up top.”

Celtic have failed to secure a win in the Champions League group stage so far, facing an uphill tasks against the likes of Spanish champions Barcelona, German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach as well as City.

Sitting last with just two points, Europa League football after Christmas is out of the question as Gladbach hold the head-to-head advantage in the all-important third-placed spot.

The Hoops will be in buoyant mood after a superb 4-3 victory away at Motherwell on Saturday, that saw Australia international Tom Rogic score a 90th-minute winner.

Three points for Rodgers’ 47-time Scottish champions would prove that they had improved against their Champions League rivals, as they look to gain some vital match experience in the competition against one of Europe’s elite clubs.
