Sky Sports pundit predicts Leeds v Burnley

By Harvey Byrne

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has predicted Leeds United to beat Burnley on penalties in Tuesday evening’s EFL Cup clash.

The Yorkshire giants are currently preparing to make the trip to Lancashire where they will face the Clarets at Turf Moor in the 7.45pm kick off.

It will be the first time the two clubs have faced each other since a Championship clash in April 2016 when a single Scott Arfield goal provided Sean Dyche’s side with the three points.

Now, Nicholas believes that Leeds will emerge as victors this time around, but that they will have to go all the way to penalties.

“I could see Leeds being awkward and dragging this one to penalties, when it becomes a lottery, so I’m going for an upset here as well,” told Nicholas, as quoted by the Sky Sports website.

“It always surprises me that clubs don’t go for a cup when they are going well, but I can’t see Sean Dyche going full strength here and I’m not sure who Burnley bring in at the back, so they should be vulnerable.

“Leeds are a decent side and have started well. I see it being a feisty affair and I can see both teams having a go and their defensive changes giving us plenty of goals.”

Leeds reached the fifth round of the cup competition in the last campaign before suffering a 2-0 defeat against Premier League giants Liverpool.

They also went to penalties twice against both Fleetwood and Norwich, winning both times and with a good record in the shoot outs the club will surely be confident if they do hold Burnley past extra time.

Burnley themselves were dumped out at the second round stage by Accrington Stanley last season and Thomas Christiansen’s side may see the clash as another opportunity to continue their fine form.
