Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted another tough fixture for Aston Villa in the Championship on Tuesday night and expects Preston to come away from Villa Park with a point in a 1-1 draw.
In his Sky Sports EFL predicts column, the former Leeds United and Nottingham Forest midfielder pointed to Preston’s impressive draw with table-toppers Wolves at the weekend as one of the reasons behind his score forecast.
And with the Claret and Blues on the back of a poor result away at Fulham at the weekend, where they fell to a 2-0 defeat, Prutton isn’t expecting an easy ride for the Villans in this fixture.
“Preston got a great result against Wolves at the weekend, especially after going down to 10 men,” Prutton said.
“They’re still knocking on the door of the play-offs and I fancy them to nick a draw here.”
To make matters more difficult for the Birmingham club, it is also looking likely that Jack Grealish, Albert Adomah, and Ahmed Elmohamady will all be missing for the match and without the creativity and firepower of the trio, Villa will be a very different prospect.
Steve Bruce’s side were without Grealish and Adomah on Saturday and the side never really got going, looking bereft of ideas throughout and lacked any real attacking bite.
The draw at the weekend meant that Cardiff took the place of Villa in the automatic promotion spots and they will not want to see the Welsh outfit gain even more ground on them in the fight to make it into the Premier League.
But if Prutton is right then the Claret and Blues will be playing catchup.
