Darren Bent has heaped praise on Tottenham summer transfer target Antonio Rudiger after the deals of the potential deal were revealed.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs striker also claimed the German may not be featuring for Chelsea because Frank Lampard does not trust him.
This site revealed earlier this week that it would have cost Spurs at least £10million to take Rudiger on loan for the season.
The Blues were demanding a loan fee of at least £4million and for his full £150,000-a-week wages to be covered.
Talks collapsed on deadline day and it is now unlikely that Lilywhites will pursue the deal in January after they signed young Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.
Rudiger has not featured for Chelsea in the Premier League at all this season but Bent admitted he understood why they were demanding so much money for his last month.
He told Football Insider: “I thought he’d get a lot more game time because I like Rudiger, I think he’s a very good player.
“For whatever reason, he just can’t seem to be able to play for Chelsea.
“Maybe Frank doesn’t trust him or doesn’t want him. What does Rudiger do?
“I like him, I think he’s a good defender, but clearly something’s gone on down there for that to happen.
“The last thing I would want to if I was Frank Lampard, it’s all well and good not liking him or trusting him, that’s each to their own, but you don’t want to see him go to your rivals in Spurs and help them.
“Why would you want to make your rivals stronger? I’ve never understood that.”
Rudiger‘s only start this season has come in the Champions League despite ending last campaign with 19 starts in Chelsea’s last 22 Premier League games.
