Sources: Alex Iwobi could now leave Everton amid new contract twist

Everton are confident Alex Iwobi will sign a new long-term deal but he is not expected to put pen to paper until the summer amid doubts over the club’s top-tier status, sources have told Football Insider.

Talks are at advanced stage and the club are positive about agreeing a deal but Iwobi’s head could yet be turned by a concrete offer in the summer.

Although the 26-year-old loves the Goodison Park club, the threat of relegation could put him off committing long-term.

Iwobi has been a key figure for Everton this season, starting all 28 of their Premier League matches under Sean Dyche and predecessor Frank Lampard.

The club are keen to tie down their best players as soon as possible with eleven set to become free agents or hit the last year of their deals.

Jordan Pickford has already committed his future to the club signing a new deal until 2027.

The club are now pushing hard with Iwobi and his camp to get a deal signed and sealed in a bid to secure his value and future at Goodison.

Talks are likely to continue into the summer as Iwobi waits to see who comes calling for his services and what his current employers’ league status is.

The midfielder has made over 200 Premier League appearances and will be keen to add to that number in the coming years.

Even though the talks have advanced and there is a great amount of positivity around a deal being struck, things could still change quickly should the right offer come calling for Iwobi.
