Sources: Alex Lowry close to agreeing new Rangers deal
Rangers are close to agreeing a new contract with rising star Alex Lowry, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
This site revealed earlier this month (11 April) that the Glasgow giants had offered the 18-year-old a new contract worth £5,000-a-week after, he knocked back their opening contract offer earlier this year (16 February).
A Rangers source has told Football Insider that the club are now closing in on a new deal for the teenager despite strong Premier League interest.
It comes as a surprise twist with Rangers fearing a move down south was inevitable given the calibre of clubs clamouring to land Lowry.
As detailed by this site earlier this month (18 April), his agent met Newcastle head of recruitment Steve Nickson over a possible move to St James’ Park.
Football Insider reported that Manchester City had also held discussions with the attacking midfielder’s camp as they looked to lure him from Ibrox.

Rangers have been keen to tie Lowry down as they believe he is a talent with huge potential.
His current terms expire next summer and the Gers have been keen to tie him down to a deal that runs until 2025.
The teenager scored on his debut for Rangers against Stirling Albion earlier this season.
He has made a total of four senior appearances so far, with one league start under his belt.
The Scotland youth international has also been named on the bench on a number of occasions, including the 1-0 loss to RB Leipzig in yesterday’s (28 April) Europa League semi-final first leg.
