Arsenal are close to agreeing a new contract with captain Martin Odegaard, sources have told Football Insider.

Talks are now at an advanced stage over a four-year deal worth in excess of £200,000-a-week, equivalent to a £40million+ package over the length of the contract.

Odegaard is expected to put pen to paper in the next weeks.

He has just two years left on his current agreement with Arsenal, which is worth a reported £115,000-a-week.

The Norway international is set for a massive pay rise at the Emirates Stadium, with manager Mikel Arteta seeing the creative superstar as central to his plans.

It is believed Odegaard is valued at more than £100million by Arsenal.

He is set to join the likes of William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in pledging his long-term future to the London side.

The 24-year-old was made Arsenal's new captain following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's acrimonious departure in January 2022.

He has started all five games for the Gunners so far in the new 2023-24 campaign, scoring twice.

Odegaard is also set to lead the Arsenal team out in the Champions League against PSV on Wednesday (20 September), their first game in the competition for six years.

He joined the club on an initial loan from Real Madrid in January 2021.

The midfielder made the move permanent later that year, signing a four-year deal after the Gunners paid Real a reported fee of £30million plus bonuses.

Odegaard enjoyed a career-best campaign last term, notching 15 goals and eight assists in 37 league appearances.
