Arsenal are in advanced talks to agree a new contract with Gabriel Martinelli, sources have told Football Insider.

The Londoners are working on tying the Brazilian forward, 21, to an extended and improved deal.

Talks are progressing well over a contract that would run until the summer of 2026 with an option for a further year.

Martinelli’s current agreement expires in 2024, but there is an option for a further two years.

It would also mean what a well-placed source says would be a “huge” pay hike for a player who has emerged as a key member of Mikel Arteta’s young and exciting team.

The Brazilian has started all of Arsenal's Premier League games this season and has scored three goals in the competition.

He firmly established himself as a key member of Arteta's squad during the 2021-22 season as he made 36 appearances in all competitions and scored six goals.

Martinelli joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 and spent his first season at the club playing in the youth and development squads.

He made his Premier League debut in August 2019 and has gone on to make 94 appearances for the Gunners.

Martinelli also has three Brazil caps to his name though he is yet to break his international duck.

Arsenal sit second in the Premier League after losing only one of their opening eight games of the season.

They are next in action against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon (9 October).
