Sources: Arsenal in advanced talks to sign Ryan on permanent deal

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Brighton to sign goalkeeper Mat Ryan on a permanent deal, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Ryan, 29, joined the Londoners in January on a loan deal running for the rest of the season.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that discussions to convert the loan into a full-time transfer are progressing well and are expected to be finalised.

The keeper has made a strong impression on the Gunners coaching staff since his arrival as back-up to Bernd Leno.

He has made two Premier League starts, including in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Fulham.

Ryan has just over a year remaining on his Brighton contract and it will not take anywhere near their £10million January valuation to sign him this summer.

Graham Potter gave the green light for the keeper to go out on loan after he was axed from his side last December.

Ryan was replaced in the team by Robert Sanchez, who has now started Brighton’s last 20 Premier League matches.

Ryan has a contract at Brighton that runs until the summer of 2022.

The 58-times Australia international joined the south-coast club from Spanish big guns Valencia in 2017 for £5.4m.

The experienced campaigner has made 123 appearances for Brighton in all competitions, conceding 185 goals and keeping 27 clean sheets.

Ryan has also had spells at Valencia, Club Brugge and Genk in Belgium as well as Central Coast Mariners in his native Australia.
