Arsenal are keen on a potential move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha in 2024, sources have told Football Insider.

However, it is believed a centre-back is the top priority for Thomas Tuchel's side as the new year approaches.

Arsenal

Arsenal could enter the race for Palhinha despite spending a nine-figure fee on England star Declan Rice in the summer window.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Gunners are likely to have to move Thomas Partey on before a deal for the Portugal international becomes possible.

Partey, who is under contract until June 2025, has been plagued by injury so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

He has turned out just five times this term and could jet off to the African Cup of Nations with Ghana next month.

Speculation over Palhinha's Fulham future has ramped up despite him signing a new five-year contract in September.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has recently spoken out about the midfielder, claiming he expects interest in his services in January and suggesting “10-15 clubs” are discussing a potential swoop.

The 23-cap Portugal international made 40 appearances last term in his first season in England, racking up some of the most impressive tackling stats in the Premier League.

He has contined to be a mainstay in Silva's side despite coming close to a Bayern switch.

Fulham stand to make a big profit on the 28-year-old, who they signed from Sporting CP reported fee of just £20million in 2022.
