Aston Villa believe Kelechi Iheanacho could be prised from promotion-chasing Leicester City for around £5-10million in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at the King Power Stadium at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

It is believed talks between Leicester and Iheanacho over a potential extension have failed to progress.

Aston Villa

Villa are in the market for a forward in January who can provide cover and competition for the likes of Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby - who have all been mainstays in Unai Emery's side this term.

Iheanacho has made 20 appearances for Leicester so far in the 2023-24 campaign following Leicester's relegation from the Premier League last term.

He has racked up six goals and two assists in those outings with Enzo Maresca's side sitting top of the Championship.

The 27-year-old is also a regular for Nigeria ahead of their African Cup of Nations campaign next month.

Iheanacho, who came through the ranks at Man City, is experienced in the Premier League having scored 42 goals in 196 top-flight outings.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa missed their chance to move top of the Premier League after drawing 1-1 at home against Sheffield United on Friday (22 December).

Unai Emery's side have advanced to the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League and will play their next continental fixture in March.
