Sources: Aston Villa make Samuel Chukwueze top January target

Aston Villa are plotting a January move for Villarreal attacker Samuel Chukwueze, sources have told Football Insider.|

This site revealed on Thursday (10 November) that the Midlands giants want to sign a top-class forward capable of operating across the front line in the upcoming window.

It is believed that Chukwueze, who Unai Emery knows well from his time at Villarreal, is a top target of the new manager.

The Spanish boss is also keen to lure Pau Torres from his old club as he looks to bring in a new centre-back.

Chukwueze fits the bill for Villa as he is blisteringly quick, direct and capable of creating and scoring goals.

He can also play on both flanks as well as down the middle.

The 23-year-old has struggled for starts in La Liga this season, only playing from the start in five of Villarreal’s 14 league games.

He is also yet to score in the league but has bagged twice in the Europa Conference League.

Chukwueze has been at Villarreal since 2017 and has gone on to make 177 senior appearances for the club.

He has primarily played as a right winger but can play on the left and as an out-and-out striker.

This versatility could prove to be a valuable asset during the fixture-packed second half of the 2022-23 Premier League season.

Emery won his first game in charge of Aston Villa, beating Man United 3-1 last Sunday (6 November).

His next game, and Villa’s last before the World Cup, comes against Brighton on Sunday (13 November).
