Roma have reignited their interest in Anwar El Ghazi and Aston Villa will let him go in January if their £18million asking price is met, Football Insider understands.

The Italian club held preliminary talks over a deal for the Dutch winger, 26, during the summer window but an agreement could not be secured.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Roma boss Jose Mourinho is still keen on El Ghazi and will pursue a January deal.

The Midlands outfit will look to cash in if they can get an £18m fee in the mid-season window.

That is slightly more than Villa wanted in the summer, but they would be unlikely to replace the two-times Holland international.

The club will listen to offers for El Ghazi after signing three senior attacking stars in the last window.

Leon Bailey, Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia all joined for £25million-plus fees, with Jack Grealish heading out to Man City.

Manager Dean Smith accepts his squad is currently overloaded and bigger than he actually needs.

El Ghazi began the season in the starting XI and responded with a goal in the 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

But he has been an unused substitute in the last five Premier League matches despite the unavailability of Bailey due to injury.

El Ghazi netted four times in the last seven Premier League matches last season to end the campaign with an impressive 11 goals from 31 games in all competitions.

But Smith believes he has reached his ceiling as a player and Villa are willing to let him go for the right offer.
