Aston Villa are plotting a surprise move for Adama Traore following his Wolves exit, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands giants have set their sights on sights another attacking star after completing the club-record capture of Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.

It is believed that Villa are turning their attention to luring free agent Traore, 27, in what would be an unexpected swoop.

Villa have a shortlist of forward targets and they are believed to include the Spain international, who spent a year at the club from August 2015 before completing an £18million move to Middlesbrough.

He has spent the last five years at Wolves apart from a loan spell at Barcelona in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.

Traore has a contract offer on the table from the Molineux outfit but it is understood to be less than the deal they offered him two years ago.

Villa's interest is an intriguing twist with Emery keen to bring pace and cutting edge to his forward line.

Traore has been frequently criticised for a lack of end product throughout his career and his 194 Premier League appearances have yielded just 10 goals and 18 assists.

But he has blistering pace and his availability as a free agent means a buyer would not need to pay a transfer fee for him.

Traore made just 12 Premier League starts among 40 appearances for Wolves last season, scoring three goals and supplying two assists in all competitions.
