Sources: Aston Villa plotting to sign Southampton star Mohammed Salisu amid £25m reveal

Aston Villa are plotting to sign Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Man United and Leicester City are also keen on Salisu who could be available for £25million in the summer.

The Saints are preparing for interest in the 23-year-old at the end of the season from Premier League clubs.

The centre-back joined St Mary’s from Spanish side Real Valladolid in 2020 and his current deal runs until 2024.

Salisu has made 28 appearances for Southampton across all competitions this season and has provided one assist in those outings.

The defender also featured for Ghana at the World Cup in Qatar where he made three appearances and managed to score his second goal for the national team.

The Villans added to their centre-back options last summer, signing Diego Carlos from Sevilla in a deal worth £26m

But the defender only made two appearances for the club before suffering a serious injury that has kept him on the sidelines for the majority of the season.

Carlos is on the verge of returning to the side but the club are aware how careful they will have to be with the centre-back.

Unai Emery’s side have been progressing well under his stewardship and are currently 11th in the Premier League and 11 points clear of 12th place Crystal Palace.

Villa are also joint on points with Chelsea in tenth and only four points off the top eight as they head into the final ten games of the 2022-23 season.
