Sources: Aston Villa ready to trigger Tyler Adams clause
Aston Villa are keen on Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams and are exploring a potential move, sources have told Football Insider.
The ambitious Midlands giants are ready to make yet another summer signing and could activate Adams’ relegation release clause – which is believed to stand at between £20-25million.
Aston Villa have already moved to add Youri Tielemans to their squad following Leicester’s relegation and could take advantage of a similar situation to land the 24-year-old Leeds star.
That is despite Adams’ injury – which prevented him taking part in the Whites’ 2-2 draw against Cardiff on Sunday (6 August).
Football Insider revealed on 3 August that the United States international is aiming to return to light training this week ahead of a potential return to action before the end of August.
Aston Villa are set to face strong competition from Premier League rivals in the hunt to sign Adams.
Sources told Football Insider on Monday (7 August) that Chelsea are very close to agreeing a deal for his services – with the negotiation process expedited due to his release clause.
Nottingham Forest are also admirers of the 24-year-old.
A well-placed source has revealed that the midfielder is keen to continue to play at the highest level after his impressive first season in the Premier League.
His Leeds runs until June 2027 after joining from RB Leipzig last summer (2022) in a reported £20million deal.
Adams made 26 appearances for the Whites across all competitions last season before picking up a hamstring injury which ended his season and continues to keep him on the sidelines.
Aston Villa have already completed moves for Tielemans, Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres as they prepare to add Europa Conference League football to their schedule in the 2023-24 campaign.
