Sources: Aston Villa star Jhon Duran is 'handful' for Emery behind the scenes as Bodymoor Heath fall-out revealed
Aston Villa striker John Duran is causing problems for manager Unai Emery behind the scenes, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the £17million striker is a “handful” for Emery and his coaching staff.
Duran‘s attitude has been questioned by the manager on multiple occasions at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground, and he has been told to make major improvements to fit in with the Spaniard’s no-nonsense demands.
Emery is renowned for his strict disciplinary standards and is unwilling to lower these for any player in his squad.
Duran has played just 68 minutes of Premier League action so far this season and has not featured in the top flight since 30 September.
The majority of his action in the 2023-24 campaign has come in the Europa Conference League.
Duran has been limited to 305 minutes of football in 12 appearances across all competitions but has still managed to rack up four goals.
The Colombia international has not been included in the squad for games against Brazil and Paraguay despite being part of the side for last month’s internationals.
He has made eight appearances for his country so far, scoring one goal.
Duran joined Aston Villa as the first signing of the Emery era earlier this year, with the Midlands giants moving to bring him to the Premier League following a successful spell with Chicago Fire in MLS.
He made 12 appearances in the English top flight last term without scoring.
The 19-year-old has been the undisputed backup for star man Ollie Watkins since arriving – with the England international already notching 10 goals in 18 appearances so far this term.
