Aston Villa have submitted a third bid for Middlesbrough starlet Morgan Rogers and are "growing in confidence" they will sign him soon, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Midlands giants are now pushing hard to wrap up a deal for the 21-year-old before the 1st February deadline.

Villa have already seen two offers for Rogers rejected by Boro, who are reluctant to lose him mid-season and will drive a hard bargain.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that scouts from Unai Emery's side were in attendance to watch the attacker in Middlesbrough's 1-1 draw against Rotherham on Saturday (20 January).

It is believed the talent-spotters left impressed with what they saw, and Villa have now made Rogers their top target for the mid-season window.

Rogers only joined Middlesbrough from Man City permanently last summer (2023).

The right-footer, who came through the ranks at West Brom, had loan spells at Bournemouth, Blackpool and Lincoln before his permanent move to the Riverside Stadium.

He has managed six goals and nine assists in 32 games across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.

The 21-year-old is under contract in the northeast until June 2027.

Middlesbrough sit 11th in the Championship table but are only three points adrift of a playoff place.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are fourth in the Premier League - just five points away from leaders Liverpool.
