Aston Villa are set to imminently announce the signing of rising star Tim Iroegbunam from West Brom, Football Insider understands.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club have finalised a four-year package with Iroegbunam and the deal is done.

It is believed that the plan is for him to be unveiled in the coming hours, potentially today.

It represent a major young-player coup for Villa, who have spent big on snapping up top youthful talent from across the UK in recent years.

They have lured a number of those from neighbour West Brom.

The most high profile of those who started off at the Hawthorns is Louie Barry, although he arrived at Villa Park via the unconventional route of Barcelona following a year overseas.

Iroegbunam has rejected a new contract from the Baggies in favour of joining their Midlands rivals.

He has been learning his trade for the West Brom Under-23s after making a big impression at youth-team level.

Iroegbunam has 40 appearances for the Under-23s and was highly rated enough by former manager Sam Allardyce to be named in the squad for the final Premier League match of last season at Leeds United.

Villa have been one of the biggest spending clubs in England since owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris took over in 2018.

But they have not just spent huge sums at senior level, with the ambitious billionaires also funding a massive youth-team recruitment drive.
