Bayern Munich are opening talks with Leroy Sane over a new contract amid fears of strong Liverpool interest, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old attacker is in the form of his life and is dazzling in a right-flank role for the Bundesliga champions this season.

Bayern do not want to lose Sane, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025 and are keen to tie him down to a new five-year deal running until 2028.

The Merseysiders were able to hang on to their star player but his future remains up in the air going into 2024 despite his own outstanding start to the new season.

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a "huge admirer", say sources, of countryman Sane and has identified him as a top-tier potential replacement for Salah.

The interest in the Egyptian icon from Saudi club Al Ittihad has not gone away and they will continue to push to sign him next year.

Bayern, who signed Harry Kane from Tottenham in the summer, have a reputation for getting mega-money deals done but are concerned about Liverpool's interest in Sane.

He is regarded by Klopp and Liverpool staff as capable of filling Salah's creative and goalscoring boots after already proving himself in the Premier League for Man City.

The Germany international left the Etihad Stadium for Bayern in a reported £54.8million deal back in 2020.

He scored 39 goals and provided 46 assists in 135 games for Pep Guardiola's side, winning two Premier League titles.

The winger's best return in the English top flight came in the 2017-18 season, when he managed 10 goals and 15 assists in 32 league games.

The Schalke youth product had spent most of his career on the left flank but has made a huge impact this season on the right.

His seven Bundesliga matches have yielded six goals and he also scored for Bayern in their 4-3 Champions League win over Man United last month.
