Rangers talent spotters are set to run the rule over striker Jonson Clarke-Harris in Peterborough's final three matches of the league season, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club's recruitment team are planning to make final checks on Clarke-Harris over the coming weeks before deciding whether to make a summer move.

But Rangers face strong competition for Clarke-Harris, with Sheffield United the latest club to join the race.

Clarke-Harris is the League One top scorer with 29 goals this season and has been nominated for the division's player-of-the-year award.

Only Brentford's Ivan Toney and Cambridge United's Paul Mullin (both 29) have scored as many times as the Posh spearhead this season in the four professional English league divisions.

Peterborough have a long history of securing top dollar for strikers over the last decade.

Their roll call includes Toney, Dwight Gayle, Jack Marriott, Britt Assombalonga, Craig Mackail-Smith and Conor Washington.

Clarke-Harris joined Posh from Bristol Rovers last summer for a fee of around £1.25m.

He has responded with the most prolific campaign of a career that has been spent entirely in the EFL, and mostly in League One.
