Man City are really confident Julian Alvarez will remain at the club despite reported interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spanish giants have once again been widely linked with a potential move for the 23-year-old.

Alvarez has started the 2023-24 campaign in stellar form as Man City look to repeat their historic treble of last season.

Man City

The World Cup winner has notched seven goals and five assists in 14 appearances across all competitions this term.

He scored on Saturday (21 October) as City ran out 2-1 winners at home against Brighton as they bounced back from back-to-back league defeats.

Alvarez has been playing in a second-striker role in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, who is expected to be injured until the new year.

The 23-year-old penned a new contract at the Etihad Stadium in March 2023, keeping him at City until 2028.

Barcelona and Real Madrid had been linked with the forward during negotiations over that deal, and the El Clasico rivals are once again interested.

But Man City are confident Alvarez will remain at the club and have no plans to accept a bid for his services.

The former River Plate man scored 17 goals and grabbed five assists in 49 games last season as Guardiola's side won a historic treble.

However, the highlight of Alvarez's season came when he helped Argentina lift the World Cup in Qatar.

He managed four goals in seven games during the tournament and grabbed a crucial brace in the semi-final win over Croatia.

City and Alvarez are next in action against Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday (25 October).
