Man United are ready to close the signing of Ramsus Hojlund with talks accelerating after Atalanta agreed to sign El Bilal Toure, sources have told Football Insider.

The Almeria forward has started a medical with the Serie A club after the teams agreed a £26.5million deal.

Everton were close to signing him and even had staff on standby to do a medical of their own.

However, Toure’s desire to play in Serie A proved decisive and a deal is now in the final stages.

That is a big boost to United's own pursuit of Hojlund, who has emerged as their top striker target following difficulty in luring Harry Kane from Tottenham.

The Italian side want £86 million for the Danish sensation but United have made it clear they will not pay more than £60 million.

Moreover, they have alternative forward options in Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus if a deal cannot be agreed with Atalanta.

Despite their strong interest in Hojlund, Man United are keeping their options open in case a deal cannot be struck.

Hojlund notched 15 goals across 41 appearances in all competitions last term despite starting in just 26 of those outings.

He is now regarded as one of the best young strikers in world football and impressed Man United scouts with his performances throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

The 20-year-old, who is under contract at Atalanta until June 2027, also scored six goals in his first six Denmark caps since making his international debut last year.
